The teacher plans appropriate lessons based on the goals, the children and their needs and the chosen subject.
Reflect:
The artifact that I chose for this standard represents is because it shows that I understand planning instruction and how it is based on such areas like subject matter, students, the community and the goals of the curriculum. This was an assignment is which we picked a science and a math lesson from a website and then we had to analyze it and complete a TEKS alignment on each lesson. This required us to understand the purpose of the lesson enough so that we could find the TEKS for other grades that coincided with the grade level that we chose. This assignment reflects this specific category because I was able to understand that something that you teach is something that will be taught at a higher level in a later grade. It helped me understand the subject matter of each elementary grade and what the curriculum development is. It also helped in planning instruction because I have learned that I need to make sure that what I am teaching relates to something that has been taught before or will be taught later.
Project:
I think that this artifact shows what kind of learner I am because I was assigned to complete some problem solving and critical thinking which helped understand the purpose of this assignment better. I am better able to understand the necessity of TEKS and how they correlate with each other in each grade. I also know that this artifact is helping me become a better teacher because I have a better knowledge of planning lessons and can apply them to my teaching in the classroom. I feel more comfortable with understand TEKS and how they work and using them in my lessons and I think that is what will help me become a better teacher as well.
